Business email with your own domain (without the chaos)
hello@yourbrand.com after you launch — a real mailbox, or forwarding while you decide, and the DNS records that make it land.
A live website at www.yourbrand.com is only half the handshake. Customers still expect hello@yourbrand.com — and spam filters expect the mail records to be honest.
This guide fits the paths we actually sell:
| Path | Typical email setup |
|---|---|
| Subdomain on DevThunder | Keep the inbox you already use; the site URL is *.sites.devthunder.com |
| Domain Hosting or WordPress on your domain | We help with DNS; you choose a mailbox |
| You already own DNS | Add the mail records your mailbox provider gives you |
Two honest options
A real mailbox is the one you want if people will write you and you will write back as @yourbrand.com. You pay per user. You get send and receive, a phone app, and records the provider hands you to paste.
Forwarding is a holding pattern: hello@yourbrand.com lands in a personal inbox while you decide. Fine for a week. Weak if you need to send as the brand, or if more than one person should see the mail.
If someone offers “free email with hosting,” read the fine print. Shared mail on a website box is how you lose mail the day the site moves.
DNS records you will touch
| Record | Purpose |
|---|---|
| MX | Tells the internet which server receives mail |
| TXT (SPF) | Authorizes who may send as your domain |
| CNAME / TXT (DKIM) | A signature on outbound mail |
| TXT (DMARC) | What to do when a message fails those checks (start gentle, tighten later) |
Misconfigured mail DNS is a common launch-week fire drill. Budget an hour to copy records carefully. Do not guess.
What DevThunder Launch includes
Launch focuses on website DNS and TLS — getting yourbrand.com to your hosted site. Email is usually parallel work:
- We can write the recommended MX/SPF rows into your handoff notes.
- Moving an existing mailbox (old host → new provider, years of archive) is Custom scope if you need hands-on help.
Care does not become your IT department. It watches the site. The mailbox stays yours.
